Upper part of a marble face. From the Asklepieion in Athens. Around 350 B.C. On the eyebrows and the inner part of the eyelids some traces of red pigment survive. The iris is of brown, the pupil of grey stone. The eyeball and the inner part of the corner of the eye are rendered in white and red stone respectively. The head was fastened into a poros block which had niches of various sizes for inserting the votive gifts.
